Germany wants to ban Google Analytics

Google Analytics and German laws.  What are the issue and what will the do about it. Let me try to explain the issue for you.

The Problem with Google AnalyticsGoogle Analytics

The problem with Google Analytics is collection of data. Google are collecting IP addresses of users visiting sites with the analytics script implemented. This is against German data protection laws. Goggle has developed a browser plugin that users can install to block Analytics from collecting these data, but this is not sufficient enough for the Germans. The outcome of this might be that German companies using Google Analytics might be fined, if they continue using this tool.

I’ve never liked the way Google handles data so I’m not on Google’s side but I also don’t like how Countries threaten to block a company from being accessible through the internet if they don’t comply. I think the internet should be free and not managed by the government, but because Google handles personal data so poorly I say Google should do as it’s told unless they want to use a whole country worth of people.
